BOTOX® (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to treat uncontrolled blinking, or spasm of the eyelids (Blepharospasm) in people 12 years and older.
Botox works by blocking the nerve signals that cause the muscles to contract. Your surgeon will inject a specific amount of Botox into the affected muscle. The treatment begins to take effect within 2 days, and will achieve maximum results within 2 weeks. Over time the medication will wear off, and the procedure will need to be repeated around 3 months later.
Common side effects include pain, swelling and injection site reactions.
Because blepharospasm is a medical diagnosis, BOTOX should be covered by insurance.
