What should I do with my old glasses?
If you have recently purchased a new pair of glasses, you may feel like your old glasses are ready to retire. But don’t throw them in the trash! There are several ways you can give an old pair of glasses a new life. In this blog, we’ll share some of the best ways to reuse or recycle your old frames.
Save them for an emergency
Even if your vision isn’t great with your old glasses, you are probably better off wearing an old prescription than nothing at all. If you run into trouble with your new glasses, it’s a good idea to have your old pair around just in case.
Replace the lenses
If your old frames are in good condition, you can replace the outdated lenses with an updated prescription. There are several great options for replacing your lenses:
Sunglasses
If you rely on your glasses for driving or staying active, prescription sunglasses are a must. Talk to your optician about replacing your old lenses with a pair of prescription sunglasses lenses. To learn more about your options for sunglasses, read our blog.
Computer Glasses
Spend a lot of time on the computer? Ask your optician about replacing your lenses with anti-fatigue lenses and a blue light blocking coating. These lenses and coatings are designed to reduce digital eye strain symptoms such as dry, tired eyes, trouble focusing, and headaches from extended use of digital screens.
A Second Pair
Still like your old frames? Replace your old lenses with your new prescription and keep wearing them! Just want an inexpensive backup? Talk to your optician about updating your prescription with a basic lens to use as a spare pair.
Donate them
Ready to say goodbye for good? Donate your old glasses to the Lion’s Club. This organization delivers gently used eyewear to developing countries to be reused by people in need. Mountain View Optical collects eyewear donations for the Lion’s Club, so you can simply drop your old eyewear off when you pick up your new glasses!
At Mountain View Optical, our goal is to provide the best eyewear for your needs. We are happy to help you reuse your old eyewear or collect your donation. If you do choose to reuse your glasses, please note that your frames must be in good condition and free from defects. Unfortunately, we cannot be responsible for breakage or damage to frames that are being reused, but we will take every precaution to keep your glasses safe. To schedule an appointment with an optician, please call or text (907) 328-2920. Thank you for taking the time to read our blog.
