Bike for Sight to Cure Blindness

Gift of Sight
There are approximately 40 million people blind worldwide. Cataracts are the cause of nearly half of this blindness. For just $25, you can help someone in the developing world see again. It’s as easy as riding a bike.
Bike for Sight is an annual charity bike riding event. The money we raise through rider registration is used to provide cataract surgeries for people suffering from blindness in the developing world.
This year’s ride will take place on Saturday July 30th starting at 10:00 am. The event is hosted by Mountain View Medical Center located off of Phillips Field Road. Registration is $25 per person. You can register online at www.bikeforsight.org.
How does it Work?

Gift of Sight
In countries like Ethiopia, the number of people blind from cataracts is higher than almost anywhere in the world. Luckily, the consumable cost of cataract surgeries in these areas is only $25. The concept is pretty simple: 1 rider = 1 sight-restoring surgery. Your small donation will have a large impact on someone’s life.
This year’s Bike for Sight Fairbanks event is being run through the non-profit Gift of Sight, an organization founded by Dr. Katherine Johnson of Mountain View Eye Center. Gift of Sight partners with NGOs (non-governmental organizations) that are already on the ground in different countries around the world and helps fund their efforts. You can learn more about their partner organizations here.

Sponsorship trophy from last year’s event.
We have several incredible sponsors this year. Without them our event would not be possible. All registered riders will receive a free lunch from Bad 2 Da Bone BBQ provided in part by Hale & Associates, a beer from HooDoo Brewing (21+ only), coffee to get you energized from North Pole Coffee Roasters and more.
So come out and join us on Saturday July 30th at Mountain View Medical Center and help cure blindness! Registration begins at 9:00am and the bike rides will commence at 10:00am. We look forward to seeing you there!
